Import master data (products, customers, suppliers) from an Excel file under Settings → Data Import/Export. Download the template first to match the expected columns.

Understanding the fields

  • Import template — download this first; its column headers are what BillBasket expects (name, price, tax rate, opening stock, etc.). Typing data into a spreadsheet with different column names or order will fail to map correctly.
  • Import file — your filled-in copy of the template, uploaded back in. BillBasket reads every row and creates the matching records in one pass.
  • Master vs. transactional data — this importer is for master data (products, customers, suppliers, opening stock) that exists before any billing happens. It isn’t for importing historical invoices or transactions — those are created going forward through normal billing.

Import Data lives in Settings → Data, alongside Export Data, Local Backup & Restore, Cloud Backup, and External database — all grouped together in the same left-hand menu section.

Open Data Import/Export

Rajesh Sharma has a spreadsheet of his existing products from his old paper ledger. He opens Settings → Data Import/Export on his Windows PC to bring it into BillBasket.

Download the template

He downloads the product import template first, so his columns — name, price, tax rate, opening stock — line up with what BillBasket expects.

Fill in the template

Rajesh fills in his products, including Parle-G Biscuits at ₹10, Tata Salt 1kg at ₹28, and Amul Milk 500ml at ₹32, along with their opening stock counts.

Upload the completed file

He uploads the completed file. BillBasket reads it and adds all the products at once, ready to bill against immediately.
