# General settings

> Configure BillBasket's app-wide options — language and appearance, date format, default bill and customer credit limit, store profile, and app version info.

**Settings → General** holds the everyday app-wide options that don't fit
under a specific feature — language and appearance, sensible defaults for
new bills and customers, your store profile, and information about the app
itself.

### Language

Change the app's display language anytime. See
[Language & display settings](/customer-guide/troubleshooting/language-and-display-settings)
for the full list of supported languages and how to switch.

### Theme

Switch between System, Light, and Dark appearance. See
[Language & display settings](/customer-guide/troubleshooting/language-and-display-settings)
for details.

### Defaults

Set the date format used across BillBasket. This matters for more than just
how dates look on screen — it also affects how BillBasket reads numeric
batch labels (for example, a batch label like `010324` is parsed differently
depending on whether your date format is day-first or month-first), so pick
the format that matches how your batch numbers are written.

You can also set a default customer credit limit here. This value is
applied automatically to new customers, so you don't have to type the same
limit in every time — you can still override it for any individual
customer.

A **Performance Log** toggle is also available in Defaults. It's meant for
troubleshooting — turn it on if BillBasket (or your support contact) needs
to investigate slowness across multiple devices, since it records extra
timing details in the background. Leave it off for normal day-to-day use.

### Business Profile

Manage your store's name, address, contact details, and other profile
information shown on invoices. See
[Managing your store profile](/customer-guide/account-and-licensing/managing-your-store-profile)
for the full walkthrough.

### About BillBasket

Shows the app version you're currently running, lets you check for
updates, and lists the open-source licenses used inside BillBasket. Check
this page first if you're reporting a problem — support will usually ask
for your version number.

## Try it: Sharma Kirana Store

<Steps>
  <Step title="Rajesh sets the date format">
    Rajesh Sharma writes his batch numbers day-first, so he opens
    **Settings → General → Defaults** and sets the date format to match,
    making sure batch labels get read correctly.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Sets a default credit limit">
    Many of his regular customers buy on credit, so he sets a default
    customer credit limit of ₹2,000 in the same Defaults section — new
    customers now start with that limit automatically.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Checks the app version">
    Before calling support about a sync question, Rajesh opens **Settings →
    General → About BillBasket** to note down his current app version.
  </Step>
