# Per-customer tax settings

> Override standard tax settings for a specific BillBasket customer — mark them tax-exempt, apply interstate GST, or use a different tax rate per party.

Some customers need different tax treatment than your default — for example,
tax-exempt organizations or interstate sales. Set this on the customer's
profile and BillBasket applies it automatically on every invoice for them.

## Try it: Sharma Kirana Store

<Steps>
  <Step title="A new customer needs different tax treatment">
    A local school registers as a party at Sharma Kirana Store and tells
    Rajesh Sharma they're tax-exempt for bulk grocery orders.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Open the party's tax settings">
    Rajesh opens the school's party profile and finds the tax settings
    section, separate from the store's default tax rates.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Mark them tax-exempt">
    He marks the party as tax-exempt and saves the change.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Tax is applied automatically going forward">
    The next time Rajesh bills the school for supplies, BillBasket
    automatically skips tax on the invoice — he doesn't need to remember to
    adjust it manually each time, unlike for regular customers such as
    Meena Devi who pay standard tax.
  </Step>
</Steps>
