# Adding a customer/party

> Add customers and suppliers as parties in BillBasket to bill against them, track a running ledger of dues and payments, and keep contact details handy.

Add a customer or supplier from **Parties → New Party** with a name, phone
number, and optional address and tax details. Once added, you can bill
against them, track credit, and view their full transaction history.

## Try it: Sharma Kirana Store

<Steps>
  <Step title="Rajesh opens New Party">
    Meena Devi, a regular at Sharma Kirana Store, asks Rajesh Sharma if she
    can start an account instead of paying cash every time. Rajesh opens
    **Parties → New Party**.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Enter Meena Devi's details">
    He enters her name "Meena Devi" and her phone number, and adds her
    home address since she lives nearby and sometimes needs home delivery.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Save the party">
    Rajesh saves the new party. Meena Devi now appears in the Parties list,
    ready to be selected whenever he bills her.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Bill against her the next visit">
    On her next visit, Rajesh selects Meena Devi as the party while
    creating her invoice, and her purchase is recorded against her account
    with full transaction history from then on.
